The first information sessions under the project “Supporting Subnational Economic Growth and Improving Public Service Delivery in Tajikistan” have been held in Sughd Region. The project is implemented by the Public Organization Saodat in partnership with the Development Policy Institute (DPI) under the Effective Governance for Economic Development (EGED) Programme, funded by the UK Government.

The sessions brought together representatives of local government authorities, jamoats, mahalla committees, the private sector, and local communities. Their main objective was to introduce the project’s opportunities, including the small grants mechanism, and to discuss the role of local planning in promoting sustainable economic development.
Participants identified key development priorities for the pilot jamoats, including job creation, support for small businesses, development of processing industries, modernization of agricultural infrastructure, improved access to essential public services, and expanded vocational training opportunities.
The information sessions marked the first step in implementing the project, which aims to strengthen the capacity of local authorities and communities to jointly plan and drive local development. By promoting participatory planning and collaboration, the project is expected to improve local decision-making, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the quality of public service delivery in the pilot areas.
