Intended outcome
Economic reforms deliver better results for the public through the systematic use of data in planning and implementation, and closer engagement between government and civil society.
EGED outputs in Kazakhstan delivered in partnership with the Bureau of the National Statistics (BNS) under the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms under the President of Kazakhstan [https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/stat?lang=en]:
- improve public sector capacity to analyse complex data and use of evidence in policy-making;
- strengthen leadership capacity of the Kazakhstan’s Bureau of National Statistics;
- generate new data and facilitate public access to it.
Data literacy
New Data Literacy Hub [https://dataliteracyhub.stat.gov.kz/] launched to train public sector officials – data users in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The training course integrates data literacy modules developed by Kazakhstan’s Bureau of National Statistics (BNS) and the World Bank Data Use and Literacy course developed alongside the 2021 World Development Report “Better Data for Better Lives”.
Stronger leadership capacity of the Bureau of National Statistics (BNS)
Through peer-to-peer partnership with the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS).
39 BNS senior officials – central and regional, enhanced statistical leadership capability ONS mentors working with their BNS peers on agricultural statistics, scanner data for CPI, and usage of mobile phone data.
BNS/ONS partnership reinforced through bilateral exchange and visits.
Listening to Kazakhstan (L2Kaz)
A monthly panel survey of 2,000 households across the country to understand public perception of wellbeing,
the impact of government reforms, employment, income, life satisfaction, and select public services provision [https://www.worldbank.org/en/country/kazakhstan/brief/l2kaz].
