Public sector capacity to deliver and use statistics
1. Through peer learning with the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS), 39 senior officials of the Kazakhstan BNS (central and regional) enhanced statistical leadership capability.
The ONS mentors working with their BNS peers shared experience on agricultural statistics, scanner data for CPI (Consumer Price Index), usage of mobile phone data, and communication of statistics to the public. The EGED continues to facilitate ONS-BNS partnership to improve the statistical data quality assurance policy and practice in Kazakhstan.
- At the request of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms, the EGED supported the launch of the Data Literacy Hub to train public sector officials in the fundamentals of using statistics.
The training course is a joint product of Kazakhstan’s BNS and the World Bank.
SOE Governance Reform in Kazakhstan
This is a new support project to help the Kazakh government partners rationalise the state ownership function, improve SOE transparency and performance monitoring, enhance SOE board governance, and continue SOE privatisation. Drawing on international good practice, including experience from the UK, the project will assist the host government improve SOE performance and attract private investment.

Listening to Kazakhstan (L2Kaz)
A monthly panel survey of 2,000 households across the country to understand public perception of wellbeing, the impact of government reforms, employment, income, life satisfaction, and select public services provision. Transparency of extractive industries
The EGED helped build awareness and understanding of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) among civil society and media in select mining communities (Oskemen, Eastern Kazakhstan).
