On 26 September 2025, statisticians from the UK and Central Asia came together at the learning event organized by the UK Government and the UK-funded Effective Governance for Economic Development (EGED) Programme to exchange insights on ways to generate migration data, estimate labour market impacts, and adapt statistics to user needs.

The objective was clear: strengthen cooperation and share expertise on generating migration data, estimating labour market impacts, and adapting statistical systems to meet user needs.
Plenary sessions explored:
- International definitions of migration and their application in national contexts
- Data sources including surveys, travel data, and wellbeing indicators
- Impact on labour market statistics and GDP
- Adapting to user needs and communicating revisions, including strategies to counter misinformation
In addition to thematic discussions, the event provided an opportunity for bilateral sessions between UK and Central Asian statistics offices, paving the way for future partnerships and technical collaboration.
By fostering dialogue and knowledge exchange, this initiative strengthened the foundations for evidence-based policymaking and enhances the capacity of national statistical systems to deliver accurate, timely, and user-focused data across Central Asia.
