DPI engages in regional dialogue on data and development in Dushanbe

On 24–25 September 2025, the regional conference “Data for Decisions” took place in Dushanbe, organized by the World Bank and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office with support from the Government of Tajikistan. The event, held within the “Effective Governance for Economic Development” (EGED) Programme, gathered around 200 participants from across Central Asia, including government officials, researchers, international organizations, and civil society representatives.

The Development Policy Institute (DPI), a key implementing partner of the EGED Programme, presented its experience from Kyrgyzstan on using data-driven approaches for regional development planning, social protection, and climate adaptation. Speaking during the panel discussion, DPI Board Chairperson Nadezhda Dobretsova emphasized that algorithm-based and data-informed planning has been successfully adopted by local self-government bodies in Kyrgyzstan.

Discussions covered poverty reduction, the expansion of the middle class, women’s economic empowerment, and the growing climate-related risks facing the region. Experts highlighted that comprehensive, evidence-based solutions are essential for effective social protection, improved governance, and sustainable development across Central Asia.
