Listening to the Citizens of Uzbekistan roundtable took place in Tashkent

L2CU «A Mahalla-Driven Approach to Improving Living Standards of the Population” roundtable took place in Tashkent on 26 February 2025

The discussion organised by the Development Strategy Centre in collaboration with the World Bank with financial support from the UK Government brought representatives from the Parliament of Uzbekistan, ministries, international organizations, analytical centres, experts, and media.

The event highlighted the Government of Uzbekistan’s progress bringing poverty down to 8.9% in 2024, ambitious goal of pushing it to 6% in 2025 that will lift 1,5 million of people out of poverty, stabilising inflation, and improving lives and driving up incomes in mahallas across the country. Participants discussed implications of the From Poverty to Prosperity Programme and noted the need to monitor progress and leave no one behind, where the World Bank designed Project Target Index – a new mahalla-level tool to identify areas with the greatest need could help policymakers tailor development interventions.

UK remains committed to support the Government of Uzbekistan in its determination to build prosperity for all citizens.
