Discussion of strategies and recommendations to improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities in Tajikistan

On January 29th, Acted Tajikistan, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the National Development Council under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, hosted a Policy Dialogue to discuss strategies and policy recommendations for improving employment opportunities for people with disabilities in Tajikistan.

The event brought together government representatives, civil society organisations, development partners, and other key stakeholders to address the challenges faced by people with disabilities in accessing employment.

Participants focused on infrastructure barriers, the need for more inclusive programmes, and the weaknesses in legal frameworks aimed at promoting inclusive employment.

Key discussions included the need for stronger enforcement of anti-discrimination laws, the implementation of quotas, expanding vocational training and skill-building programmes tailored to people with disabilities to improve their employability in various sectors, and the introduction of incentives for employers to hire people with disabilities.

Acted Tajikistan also presented findings from its research on the current state of government policies concerning the employment of vulnerable groups. The research provides insights into gaps and opportunities for improving policies to better support the employment of people with disabilities.

This event was organised as part of the «Effective Governance for Economic Development» programme (EGED), supported by the UK in Tajikistan and implemented by Acted in Tajikistan.
