These findings were presented during the roundtable <strong>\u201cListening to the Citizens of Uzbekistan: Pathways to a Greener and More Energy-Efficient Future\u201d<\/strong>, organised with the support of the UK Government\u2019s EGED Programme. The event brought together representatives of government institutions, the World Bank, development partners and experts to discuss evidence-based solutions for improving air quality and advancing energy reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/eged-ca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/6c6ca8f8-8def-4a7b-85c2-be5b48df907c.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3708\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eged-ca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/6c6ca8f8-8def-4a7b-85c2-be5b48df907c.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/eged-ca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/6c6ca8f8-8def-4a7b-85c2-be5b48df907c-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Presenting the latest findings from the <strong>Listening to the Citizens of Uzbekistan (L2CU)<\/strong> survey, World Bank Senior Economist <strong>Ikuko Uochi<\/strong> highlighted that Uzbekistan has achieved strong economic progress, with the national poverty rate falling from <strong>8.9% in 2024 to 5.8% in 2025<\/strong>, while <strong>92% of citizens remain optimistic about the country\u2019s economic future<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Ms. Uochi stressed that economic growth must go hand in hand with improving people\u2019s quality of life: <em>\u201cListening to citizens helps ensure that reforms respond to people\u2019s real priorities and improve everyday lives\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/eged-ca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ad876016-f430-4e8d-9cd1-6bd797ba7e58.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3710\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eged-ca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ad876016-f430-4e8d-9cd1-6bd797ba7e58.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/eged-ca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ad876016-f430-4e8d-9cd1-6bd797ba7e58-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The discussion showed that environmental challenges are among those priorities. <strong>Seventy-four percent<\/strong> of respondents consider air pollution a serious health risk, while <strong>82%<\/strong> say they are willing to take action to reduce its impact. At the same time, <strong>81%<\/strong> believe that energy-efficient technologies can help lower household energy bills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These findings point to a clear pathway forward: combining public awareness, evidence-based policymaking and practical investments in energy efficiency can simultaneously improve public health, reduce household costs and support Uzbekistan\u2019s green transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/eged-ca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/57f253f1-8ec8-4784-a870-b2cf59b82e05.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3712\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eged-ca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/57f253f1-8ec8-4784-a870-b2cf59b82e05.jpg 800w, https:\/\/eged-ca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/57f253f1-8ec8-4784-a870-b2cf59b82e05-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through the <strong>EGED Programme<\/strong>, the UK Government supports Uzbekistan in strengthening evidence-based policymaking, improving air quality and advancing energy reforms that respond to citizens\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Clean air and affordable energy are becoming key public priorities in Uzbekistan.
